Karen Schuman Selected as Empowered Woman of the Year by IAOTP
Karen Schuman, Artist and Gallerist, was recently chosen to receive the Empowered Woman of the Year Award for 2024, given by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP). Her exemplary role as a female entrepreneur and talented professional displays her influence, capability, and proficiency.
Inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) is an honor, only a few women are chosen for this distinction based on their years of experience, professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, and contributions to their communities. These women empower others with innovation and compassion to reach their goals while creating change for future generations. Karen Schuman will be honored for this distinction at IAOTP’s 2024 Annual Awards Gala.

With more than two and a half decades of experience in the industry, Ms. Schuman has certainly proven herself as an expert in her field. Karen embarked on her journey as the founder and director of the Dancing Krow Studio, showcasing her passion and leadership in the art field. She initially ventured into studio and gallery ownership when she and her husband decided to lease empty storefronts in a less prosperous part of Oak Park, Illinois. She operated her business, The Art House, as a nonprofit organization.
Karen’s artistic expertise encompasses various mediums, including batik-dyed fabric, quilting, beadwork, and embroidery. Her art strives to connect with others and impart the wisdom of living in perfect harmony with the Earth and nature. Karen’s shamanic practice, as seen in her artwork, focuses on illuminating the depths of darkness. She achieved notable success by securing first and second place at the Art League in her Oak Park community.
Before embarking on her career path, Ms Schuman completed coursework in oil painting at the Edward Cathony Studio of Art. Additionally, she successfully finished coursework in the secretarial training program at Robert Morris University. Following this, she gained valuable experience as a personal assistant at the Garfield-Linn Advertising Agency. Ms. Schuman also made a valuable contribution to the American Art Collector Book.
Throughout her illustrious career, Ms. Schuman has received many awards and accolades and has been recognized worldwide for her accomplishments. This year, she will be considered for a TIP (Top Industry Professionals) Magazine feature. She will be recognized at IAOTP’s annual awards gala at the magnificent Opryland Hotel in Nashville in December for her selection as Top Award-Winning Artist of the Year 2023 and her most recent award for Empowered Woman of the Year 2024.
In addition to her successful career, Ms. Schuman is a dedicated member of the Oak Park Arts District. She has been actively involved in hosting art workshops for community members experiencing homelessness as part of her commitment to community outreach and fostering creativity.
Looking back, Karen attributes her success to her perseverance, work ethic, and the mentors she has had along the way. When not working, she enjoys gardening, walking, hiking and traveling. In the future, she hopes to inspire and influence those getting into the field.
